THV mini-turbines for energy recuperation

THV miniturbines are hydraulic water turbines built into mass-produced pump hulls, enabling regulation of network parameters and energy recuperation.

They are designed for energy recovery and parameter control of district heating networks, water supply systems and process systems, as well as energy recovery from idle liquid discharges and the management of small watercourses. THV mini-turbines are offered in a wide range of construction materials and for installations with pressures up to PN16, which allows them to be used also in industrial systems and with high working medium temperatures.

Application

Regulation of network parameters (can replace pressure regulators) and energy recuperation in the:
  • district heating networks with central pumping station
  • water supply networks in areas with strongly varying ground levels
  • liquid discharges from technological systems
  • technological systems with central pumping station supplying receivers with different requirements

Advantage of THV miniturbines over pumps in turbine motion (PAT)

Technical effect:
  • Miniturbine efficiency is min 5% higher than PAT
  • Miniturbin nominal power is min 20% higher than PAT
Economic effect:
  • The cost of a miniturbine is 10-60% higher than a PAT but still ~3 times lower than the design and unit construction of a Francis-type turbine
Availability effect:
  • Energy characteristics of miniturbines are included in the publicly available Pump Selection Program, which will facilitate a quick economic analysis of the potential management of lost energy in the pumping system.

Turbine design executions

THV - Turbine without inlet vane blades with a specially shaped multi-bladed rotor.

THVfc - Francis-type water turbine system with fixed-angle inlet vane blades.

THVf - A classic Francis-type water turbine system with an externally adjustable inlet guide vane angle.

Miniturbines built using mass-produced pump components are a good cost alternative to individually designed and manufactured water turbines. They can be used to recover energy lost in pumping systems and to develop watercourses with low potential. The use of specially developed turbine systems ensures high efficiency of energy production and allows operation over a wide flow range. The availability of machines in a wide range of materials and for high temperatures of the medium makes it possible to use them also in technological systems of industrial installations.
