The primary task of sand traps, operating in wastewater treatment plants, is to separate mineral suspended solids
from organic matter. If sand is not removed from wastewater at the beginning of the treatment process, it can cause many
problems in subsequent treatment phases. Sand traps protect subsequent wastewater treatment facilities from:
- Clogging of pipelines,
- mechanical obliteration of the components, and thus their wear and tear,
- Sand accumulation in aeration chambers and digesters leading to a reduction in their active capacity.
